Baseball's late rally falls short in 11-9 loss to Fisher College

(Rindge, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team left the tying at second base tonight as their late inning rally fell short in an 11-9 loss to Fisher College this evening at Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University. It was the second loss in as many nights for the Raiders as they dropped last night's contest to the Falcons of Fisher College, 12-6.

Trailing 11-7 entering the 9th inning, the Raiders would start to mount a comeback as they quickly loaded the bases with no one out. That made Fisher summon their closer Chris Cantu from the bullpen and he was able to get three outs before Rivier could plate the four runs needed.

Sophomore starting pitcher Drew Neely (Lakeland, Fla.) suffered his second loss of the season as he allowed seven runs (two earned) on six hits. Freshman Charlie Savard (Tyngsboro, Mass.) made his collegiate debut on the hill tossing four innings of much needed relief.

Sophomore first baseman Adam Arkell (Dover, N.H.) went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI to lead the offensive attack for Rivier. Junior Nick Gagnon (Providence, R.I.) also knocked in a pair of runs in the loss.

Rivier (4-8 overall) will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Standish, Maine for a 12pm double-header with Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Fisher (8-10) will be in Long Island, New York for a double-header of their own against Briarcliffe College.
