Baseball earns third straight, downs Gallaudet 4-2

(Waldorf, Maryland) The Rivier University Baseball team earned their third consecutive win this evening as they defeated Gallaudet University, 4-2 at Regency Furniture Stadium – the home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League. The Raiders move up to 4-5 on the season while Gallaudet falls to 1-10.

Trailing 1-0 in the home half of the fifth inning, junior Taylor Black (West Springfield, Mass.) smashed his 2nd homer of the year, a solo shot into the picnic pavilion in left field to tie things up. After allowing the Bison to plate their second run in the seventh, the Raiders answer with a pair of RBI singles from Black and junior Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, N.H.). Rivier would add an insurance run in the eighth as senior David Cusack (Newburyport, Mass.) doubled home classmate JJ Montello (Nashua, N.H.).

Junior Jonathan Chotkowski (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up the win as he pitched four innings of relief. The southpaw scattered five hits while walking three and retiring four by way of the K. Junior Edward Soucie (So. Ryegate, Vt.) started the game and allowed just one run over five innings with four strikeouts.

Black and Ball each went 3-for-4 on the evening while Cusack finished 2-for-3.

Rivier will return to Regency Furniture Stadium for a 12pm game with Saint Mary's College of Maryland tomorrow afternoon before returning home to Nashua.
