Baseball drops non-conference contest to Fisher

(Rindge, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team finally returned to action this evening as they fell to a powerful Fisher College squad, 12-6 at Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce University. The Raiders, who last played on March 22, are now 4-7 on the season while Fisher ups their season record to 7-10.

Freshman Brady Mock (Webster, N.H.) got the start on the mound for Rivier. Despite two rough innings of work, the young right-hander was able to pitch his first career complete game in the loss. Mock allowed 12 runs (all earned) on 14 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Falcons were able to jump out to an early lead as they plated six runs, all with two outs in the home half of the first inning. In the team's five run fourth, both Jessue Alvarado and Jordan Berry found the other side of the outfield fence for their 3rd and 2nd homers of the season.

Rivier was able to get to Fisher starter Joe Saia in the fifth inning as the Raiders plated four runs, keyed by sophomore Drew Neely (Lakeland, Fla.) bases clearing double down the right field line with two outs. Neely would then scamper home on a wild pitch.

Five different Raiders record solo hits with senior David Cusack (Newburyport, Mass.) and junior Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, N.H.) joining Neely with extra base knocks.

Berry would finish the game going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Alvarado also ended up with a 2-for-4 night with 1 RBI. Cody Mercier was the individual hit leader as he went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Dylan Moss also added a 2 RBI double in the win.

Jose Maldonado snaked his first win of the season as he was able to toss a scoreless inning of relief. Maldonado was one of five Falcon relievers to blank Rivier over the final 4.1 innings of baseball.

Both teams will return to Pappas Field tomorrow evening for a 7pm game. It will be game two of the three game season series between the ball clubs.
