Women's Volleyball: Dunster reaches 1,000 career digs in three-set win at Regis

WESTON, MASS – Senior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) eclipsed the 1,000 dig mark this evening in the Rivier University Women's Volleyball three-set win over Regis College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The win propels the Raiders to an overall mark of 20-7 with an 8-2 record against the conference. The Pride fall to 10-17 overall and 4-6 in league play with the loss.

Dunster's career highlight came late in the first set as the Raiders took the three-set contest by scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 26-24.

The senior finished her night with 12 kills and a 10 digs while also recording a .310 hitting percentage. Classmate Jess Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) led the team with 13 kills and a .526 hitting percentage with sophomore Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) adding seven kills and 11 digs of her own in the win. Sophomore setter Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) directed the offense with 30 assists and contributed defensively with 11 digs and a block assist. Senior Taryn Higareda (Rosemead, Calif.) patrolled the backline scooping up the team-high 17 digs and junior Julia Zargaj (Groveland, Mass.) chipped in with four total blocks on the night.

Regis was paced by Julia Pelland's seven-kill, four total block night with Rita Dow collecting a .308 hitting percentage on six kills. Tori Ondris dished out 15 helpers and Emily Fagundo added eight assist to guide the offensive effort from the Pride. Defensively, Meg Adams picked up 15 digs and Lauren Butt recorded eight total blocks while also contributing offensively with five kills and a .312 hitting percentage in the loss.

The Raiders will close out the 2019 regular season on Saturday as they welcome both Emmanuel College and Albertus Magnus College to the Muldoon Gymnasium for a GNAC Tri-Match. The first game will start at 11am against Emmanuel and it will also be senior day at the 'Doon as the program honors their five graduating seniors – Higareda, Dunster, Whyte, Sunn Foglia (Remsenburg, N.Y.) and team manager Sklya Insogna.
