WVB: Macken, Trevino named GNAC Players of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) After a successful opening weekend down in New York City that saw the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team capture four wins, two student-athletes were selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Week One Offensive Player and Defensive Players of the Week.

Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week as she was named the NYU Invitational Most Outstanding Player in leading the Raiders to four wins. The second year setter dished out 144 assists in just 14 sets played for a 10.29 assists per set average while directing the potent Rivier offense to a .253 team hitting percentage. Macken also averaged 2.21 digs per set and highlighted her week with 13.0 assists per set in a straight set win over host New York University.

Junior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) garnered the Defensive Player of the Week selection as she scooped up 63 digs for a 4.50 digs per set in helping the team to wins over Skidmore College and Hunter College. The third-year veteran libero twice recorded 18 digs, highlighted by a 6.0 digs per set average in the three set win over Skidmore.

This was the first time in the career for Macken that she received a weekly honor from the GNAC. On the other side, this was Trevino's eighth time being selected by the GNAC; 4-time Defensive Player of the Week and 4-time Rookie of the Week in 2014.

Rivier will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they host both Keene State (4pm) and Colby-Sawyer (6pm) in the annual Granite State Challenge inside the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium.
