Women's Soccer draws a 2-2 tie with Maine-Farmington

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team battled the University of Maine-Farmnigton Beavers this afternoon to a 2-2 tie in front of about 114 people at Raider Field. The Raiders received goals from sophomore Susan O'Loughlin (Stoneham, MA) and senior Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, NH) as they earned their first point of 2013 and the career of first year Head Coach Laura Ray.

Maine-Farmnigton struck early as junior Keli McLellan (Northfield, VT) netted her first goal of the season as she was able to take a free ball inside the 18 and sneak it passed the Raider goaltender.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the visitors until the 56th minute when junior Mariah Payne (Concord, NH) riffled a shot towards the net and it was O'Loughlin who redirected it into the back of the net. It was O'Loughlin's first goal of the season.

Not to be outdone, the Beavers once again to control as junior Alexandra Crocker (Glenburn, ME) broke free from the pack and on a solo breakaway was able to give Maine-Farmington a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Rivier would then knot things back up with just 3:22 remaining when freshman Meghan Caron (Tyngsboro, MA) sent a beautiful ball deep into the UMF zone where Tamposi was able to collect it and beat the UMF keeper.

Both teams had golden opportunities to net the game winner in OT but both goaltenders were able to keep the game deadlocked.

Senior Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, NH) recorded five saves on seven shots while her counterpart – senior Beth Lebel (Lewiston, ME) made nine saves on eleven shots.

The Raiders (0-2-1 overall) will return to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Brookline, Massachusetts to take on Pine Manor College. Maine-Farmington will travel to Saint Joseph's College for an in-state contest.
