Women's Soccer falls to Plattsburgh State, 3-0 in season opener

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team, under the direction of first year head coach and Plattsburgh State graduate Laura Ray, dropped their season opener this afternoon by a 3-0 final to the Cardinals from Plattsburgh State.

The game was scoreless through the first 25 minutes as the Cardinals held a lopsided shot advantage. In the 25th minute, Plattsburgh State's Lauren Gonyea (Senior/Plattsburgh, NY) took a pass from sophomore Cassidy Clavet (Clifton Park, NY) and was able to get it passed Rivier net minder Cassandra Brown (Senior/Somersworth, NH) for her first of the season.

Plattsburgh State would add two more goals in the second half off the feet of Clavet and junior Jill Tardelli (Potsdam, NY) at the 70th and 82nd minutes, respectively.

Brown took the loss in net for Rivier as she stopped 9 of 12 shots she saw. Junior Charisse Abellard did not face a shot on goal in the 90 minutes and received the win for Plattsburgh State.

The Raiders will return to the pitch tomorrow afternoon as they travel north to take on Colby-Sawyer. Game time is set for 1pm. Plattsburgh State, who was on the other side of a 3-0 decision yesterday at Colby-Sawyer, will return home to host the Cardinal Classic on September 6th.
