Raiders take two from Amcats in GNAC Softball action

(Holden, MA) The Rivier University Softball team continued their winning ways as the swept Anna Maria College, 9-1 and 9-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header today at Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, Mass. Junior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) paced the way for the offense as she had seven hits, including a home run in the two games this afternoon.

Game One: Rivier University 9, Anna Maria College 1 (Final – 6 innings)

Peacock went 3-for-4 in the first game and belted a three run homer in the sixth as the Raiders took game one, 9-1 in a mercy rule shortened game.

Junior Hilary Tarr (North Easton, MA) was dazzling in the circle as she tossed six innings allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out five. Junior Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, NH) and freshman Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, NH) each went 2-for-4 in the victory while senior Marissa Mercier (North Smithfield, RI) and Tarr added two RBI each.

Game Two: Rivier University 9, Anna Maria College 2 (Final)

The dominance inside the circle continued in game two as freshman Taylor Miller spun seven brilliant innings limiting the Amcats to just two earned runs on five hits and she struck out four. Miller earned her fourth win of the season in the process.

Peacock continued to stay red-hot as she went 4-for-4 and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Tarr backed up her pitching performance with a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish in game two. Freshman Anjulisa Rhodes (Lawrence, MA) knocked home her first collegiate RBI in the third on a 4-3 groundout.

Rivier returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they will host Norwich University in a GNAC double-header up at Raider Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
