Men's Volleyball drops non-conference contest to #1 Springfield

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball team hosted the #1 NCAA Division III team in the country, according to AVCA.com, Springfield College this evening at the Muldoon Gymnasium in non-conference action. The Raiders were not able to pull off the upset as they fell in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17. The loss is just the seventh of the season for Rivier as they are 11-7 while Springfield sits at 20-1 overall.

Junior Ian Wolski (Westfield, Mass.) led the offensive attack for the Raiders as he hammered down eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Sophomore Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) totaled the team high of nine kills and four total blocks. Also registering four total blocks was freshman Khaynen Yocca (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who also contributed with four kills. Junior Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) dished out 24 assists and sophomore Garrett Bucklin (Jamestown, R.I.) had seven digs in the loss.

Top-Ranked Springfield was led by efforts of Kyle Jasuta, who had the game high of 10 kills and a .750 hitting percentage. Luis Vega also chipped in with an eight kill, five dig night and Luis Garcia Rubio directed the offense with 25 assists. Eli Irizarry Pares collected six digs and Julian Welsh-White had four total blocks in the Pride's twentieth win of the season.

Rivier will be back in action on Saturday morning as they host Wentworth Institute of Technology and Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at the Muldoon. Game one start time vs. Wentworth is scheduled for 11:00am.
