Almario Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

Nashua, NH - Rivier men's volleyball freshman Aaron Almario (Alhambra, CA) has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Week after helping the Raiders to a 4-0 week, including a conference win over Emerson College.

The 6'7 middle hitter started all 4 matches during the week and finished with 39 kills and a .289 hitting percentage as the #5 ranked Raiders beat Emerson, Vassar College, Ramapo College and #6 ranked Philadelphia Biblical University.

Over the course of the 4 matches Aaron recorded 27 total blocks to lead the Raiders defense, including twice notching 9 blocks in a match.  Against Emerson and Ramapo Almario picked up 9 blocks and recorded 9 and 7 kills respectively to help the Raiders to a pair of 3-1 victories.  When the Raiders played Vassar Aaron was only able to grab 3 blocks, but picked up his offense with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in another 3-1 win.  Aaron really stepped up his game when it counted most against Philadelphia Biblical.  Almario registered 6 blocks and 12 kills, hitting .526 in the match in a 3-2 victory over the sixth ranked team in the nation. 

For the week Almario smashed down 39 kills and picked up 27 blocks along with 2 service aces and 7 digs.  He combined for a total of 59.5 points on the week and had a team high 1.59 blocks per set.
