Providence, R.I. - Rivier College, currently ranked No. 8 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, defeated Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Wednesday evening. Rivier posted a 25-17 win in the first set and took control of the match with a 25-15 victory in set two. The Raiders then closed out the victory with a 25-19 score in the third and final set.
Rivier freshman Sam Kazlas (Allentown, PA) had a match-high nine kills, three blocks and two digs while classmate Aaron Almario (Alhambra, CA) recorded five kills and three blocks. Freshmen Steven Coulson (Huntington Beach, CA) had 5 kills and Cameron Walker (Costa Mesa, CA) and Daniel Elitharp (Eastport, NY) tallied 12 kills and 3 digs respectively for the visitors.
With the win Rivier improves to 14-5 on the year, 4-0 in league play. The Raiders will return to GNAC action tonight, Thursday 2/17, with a 6pm match against Emerson College and an 8pm match against Mt Ida College.
