Men's Soccer setback by Norwich University, 3-0

(Northfield, Vt.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team was setback tonight by Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest held at Sabine Field in Northfield, Vt. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 1-10-0, 0-6-0 GNAC while Norwich moves into a first place tie with Johnson & Wales University with 15 GNAC points (9-3-1 overall, 5-1-0 GNAC).

Junior forward Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) of Norwich scored twice to lead the Cadets to their fifth straight win.

Zimmerman scored on a penalty kick in the first half (14 minute mark) and then added another goal (62nd minute) with a deft touch in the second half for his eighth and ninth tallies of the season to take over the team lead and score a goal in his fourth straight game.

The Cadets could have had two or three additional scoring chances in the first half, but chances by both Moab Schiers (South Weber, Utah) and Noah Schiers (South Weber, Utah) were stonewalled by Rivier junior goalkeeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.), as well as header opportunity from Chase Hainey (Fryeburg, Maine) that hit the post and deflected away.

Senior captain Christian Albrecht (Albuquerque, N.M.) capped the scoring for Norwich with his first goal of the year off an assist from Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) off a corner kick. Lozito sent a perfect ball in to the far post that Albrecht skied up to head down with authority.

Archambault stopped nine of twelve shots he faced on net in the loss while Norwich freshman goalkeeper Stefan Skoff (San Jose, Calif.) made two saves for the Cadets.

Rivier will host Suffolk University in a rare Saturday night home game at Raider Field on Ocotber 17th. Game time is scheduled to start at 7pm.
