(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Raiders Men's Soccer came up short of a non-conference contest at Raider Field this evening in the 2012 season finale. Visiting Husson University downed the Raiders, 2-0 as Rivier finishes with a 0-14-1 record on the season.
Rivier fought step for step with the Eagles (13-2, 8-1 NAC) as the teams were scoreless through the first 37 minutes of the first half. In the 38th minute, Husson's Patrick Van Dessel buried a header past Rivier senior goaltender Matthew St. Peter (Colchester, VT) off a perfect cross from Taylor Wentworth, who lifted the ball just outside the 18.
The score remained 1-0 until James Crockford drilled a shot from the top of the 18 into the far corner of the net inside the 70th minute.
St. Peter stopped 11 of the 13 shots he saw in his final game in a Raider uniform. He finishes the season with 155 saves in 15 games played.
Mason Smith made saves on all three shots to earn the win in net for Husson, including a point blank shot from sophomore Bryar King (Berlin, NH) late in the second half.
