Tyler scored twice to lead Raiders past Regis College

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier College Field Hockey team recorded their third win of the season tonight with a hard fought battle against Regis College in front of about 75 people up at Raider Field.

The scoring got started in the first half as Rivier jumped out to a 1-0 lead within the first five minutes. Junior tri-captain Kristen Tyler (Thornton, NH) grabbed a loose ball inside the circle after a corner and rifled one into the net. It was Tyler's first goal of 2011.

Rivier would extend the lead to 2-0 at the 16 minute mark. Sophomore Kayla O'Reilly (Marshfield, MA) found herself in the right place as she collected a rebound and put into the back of the net. The goal was O'Reilly's team leading sixth of 2011.

Trailing by two at half, Regis College started the second half on fire. After a corner was awarded to Regis, it was the Pride's Christine O'Toole (So., Wareham, MA) who found the net and cut the Raider lead to just one.

The Raiders however would not quit. Their hard work paid off at the 54 minute mark. Junior tri-captain Lindsay Rettenmeier (Ashford, CT) ripped a shot that went over the Regis keeper's head and was batted down by a Pride defender. A penalty shot was given to Rivier and freshman Presleigh Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH) recorded her first collegiate goal with a shot that went top self right side.

Just two minutes later, Tyler would add her second goal when she took a corner pass from fellow junior tri-captain Meghan Ruocco (East Kingston, NH) and bring it up to the top of the circle and fired a laser shot into the net.

Regis would add a late goal by freshman Sashae Walls (Everett, MA) but it was not enough as Rivier held on to win.

Freshman Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA) allowed just two goals on seven shots. Regis freshman goalkeeper Genesiz Gudiel (Lawrence, MA) stopped seven of the eleven shots that she saw.

Rivier will return to action on Saturday, October 1st when the travel up to Colby-Sawyer College. The next home game will be on Tuesday, October 4th against Simmons College. Both games are North Atlantic Conference contests. Regis will host NECC opponent Wheelock College on Sunday, October 2nd.
