Lasell upends Rivier in NAC Field Hockey action

Nashua, NH - Four different Lasers scored goals as visiting Lasell College defeated Rivier College in a North Atlantic Conference match up tonight at Raider Field.

Lasell (2-4, 1-1 NAC) scored their first goal just over the 10 minute mark into the game. Lasell was awarded a corner and capitalized. Junior Natasha Wood (White River Junction, VT) set up classmate Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) who found the back of the net to give the Lasers a 1-0 lead.

Lasell would double the score when Fabri assisted Lauren Rice's (Fr., Belfast, ME) goal at the 20 minute mark.

Rivier (2-4, 0-2 NAC) would trim the deficit to one in the second half. Freshman Presleigh Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH) ripped a shot towards the net. Skelley's classmate Kayla O'Reilly (Marshfield, MA) positioned herself perfectly as she screened the Lasell goaltender and was able to deflect the shot over the right shoulder and into the back of the net. That was O'Reilly's fourth goal of 2011.

Lasell would get a little breathing room as they scored two more goals inside the final 11 minutes. Lasell freshman Meghan Collier (Sindey, ME) one-timed a pass from Fabri for the third goal and freshman Taylor Hulitzky (Medway, MA) made it 4-1 as she buried the ball into the net after a perfect pass from Wood.

Rivier goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA) returned to action tonight after missing the past few games and recorded 12 saves. Lasell goaltender Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) recorded the win as she allowed just one goal on eight shots.

The Raiders will have little time to think about this game as they are scheduled to play a non-conference game on Thursday night (9/22) at home against Fitchburg State College. Game time is set for 7pm. Lasell will face NAC opponent Thomas College up in Waterville, ME on Saturday afternoon.
