Cohoon's hat trick lifts Women's Soccer past Fisher

(Medford, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team received three goals courtesy of sophomore Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) as they earned a come from behind 5-3 victory over Fisher College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening. The Raiders now stand at 4-2 overall on the year while Fisher falls to 3-3.

Fisher's Alica Alex got the high scoring game started in the 15th minute as she was able to capitalize on a corner kick opportunity. Ashley DeSousa and Holly Lesperance were credited with the assists to give the home team the early advantage.

Rivier would get the equalizer just two minutes later as sophomore Colby Creteau (Nashua, N.H.) was able send a thru ball to Cohoon who deposited the ball in the back of the net. The game would remain tied at one as the halftime whistle sounded.

The second half was all Rivier as the Raiders were able to find the back of the net four times on ten shots. Cohoon gave Riv the lead inside the 49th minute as she was the recipient of a thru ball from classmate Jackie Russo (Saugus, Mass.). Fisher would respond with a Kaleigh Mulligan goal from Julia Schojan at the 55 minute mark as the teams once again found themselves deadlocked.

Over the next five minutes of play, the Raiders gave themselves some breathing room as Russo and Cohoon were able to put tallies on the board at the 57 minute and 60 minute marks of the game. Cohoon was able to set up Russo with yet another thru ball past the Falcon defenders and Cohoon registered her second hat trick of the season as she got a bouncing ball from freshman goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) that eluded the defense and allowed her to score.

Fisher would climb back within one as they were able to score in the 81st minute. Schojan was the beneficiary of a De Sousa pass and the Raider lead was trimmed in half.

With just under five minutes to play, Rivier was able to put the game out of reach and wrap up their fourth win of the season as Creteau knocked home her own rebound in the 85th minute.

Goodspeed finished the evening with 12 saves on 15 shots. Fisher's net minder, Paige Ciarvarro stopped four of the Raiders' nine shots on net.

Sophomore Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) played a terrific game at the center mid position and helped control the middle with Creteau. Junior Ally Nolan (Willington, Conn.) and freshman Kelly Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.), both making the first career starts, worked tirelessly on the outside mid all game as it was a team effort by the Raiders in the win.

Rivier will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Lasell College for a 4pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. Fisher will be back on the pitch tomorrow evening against Saint Joseph's of Brooklyn.
