GNAC All-Conference Teams Announced

Nashua, NH – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Teams are being announced and three Raiders have been honored by the GNAC in the early rounds of releases. Two women's lacrosse players, Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) and Caitlin Gallagher (Billerica, MA) along with baseball's Nathan Knoetig (Manchester, NH) were named to either the first or second team all-conference in their respective sports.

Wickens, a freshman attacker for the lacrosse team, led Rivier's offense this season scoring a team high 66 goals while also helping with 6 assists for a total of 72 points. Wickens stepped up as the Raiders primary offensive weapon after an injury to sophomore Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME), that ended her season, to become Rivier's new single season goal leader. Brett set the record last season, scoring 42 goals in Rivier's inaugural season, but Wickens eclipsed that with her 66 goals this year.

In just their second season of competition, Rivier made it into the GNAC playoffs and although Wickens was a huge part of the team's success, so was defenseman Caitlin Gallagher. Gallagher, a sophomore captain, anchored the Raiders defense and prevented teams from reaching the goal. She picked up 27 ground balls on the season along with 7 draw controls while forcing 9 turnovers from the other team. Rivier finished with a 9-7 overall record at the conclusion of the season, improving on the 3-10 record they posted just one season ago.

Baseball's Nathan Knoetig was been named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team in just his freshman season. Knoetig, a utility player, spent time at third base, the corner outfield positions and as a pitcher during the 2011 season. Nathan hit .284 on the season, going 23 for 81 with 2 doubles and 1 homerun. In the field Knoetig had a .909 fielding percentage, making just 6 errors in 60 chances. The Raiders finished with a 4-23 record overall and a 3-11 record in GNAC play. Rivier missed the playoffs by one game.
