Symmes and McKelvey of Women's Ice Hockey Earn ECHA Weekly Honors

ECHA RELEASE

WORCESTER, Mass. – Rivier women's ice hockey's junior goaltender Rachel Symmes and first year forward Rebecca McKelvey each earned honors as the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) Goalie and Rookie of the Week, respectively, following a 2-0-0 opening weekend. The Raiders swept New England Col. in a home-and-home to jump out to the best start in the program's three-season history.

Symmes impressed in net throughout both games, making 78 total saves over the pair of wins as the Chugiak, Alaska native posted a goals-against average of 1.50 and a .963 save percentage. This marks Symmes' second ECHA weekly award.

McKelvey netted goals in both wins for Rivier, including one power-play goal, while taking eight shots. In her debut on Friday evening, the Barre, Vt. native connected with Ellie Grady and Margaret Smith to light the lamp for the first time at the collegiate level.

The Raiders will look to continue their early success in game one of a home-and-home series with Salem St. on Friday, Nov. 3, with puck drop from Conway Arena set for 7:00 p.m.
