Men's Soccer: Raiders tripped up at Fitchburg State

(Fitchburg, Mass.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team dropped a non-conference affair this evening to Fitchburg State University, 2-1. The Raiders see their overall record to 1-5-1 while the Falcons improve to 3-2.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Hassan Koroma knocked home a pass from Shane Grenier for his first of the season.

Things got weird in the 35th minute as Rivier was credited with a goal after the Falcons inadvertently kicked the ball off their own player and into the back of the net. That's how things would end the first half with the score tied at 1-1.

In the 63rd minute, Fitchburg State took the lead for good when Yannick DePina netted his third goal of the year from Ibrahima Male for the 2-1 final.

Sophomore keeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made two saves on four shots for the Raiders while Branton Abbett allowed just the one lone goal.

Rivier will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
