Men's Soccer: Raiders honor Seniors against Anna Maria

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team saw a late 2-1 lead slip away as visiting Anna Maria College scored the game tying goal in the final minute and the eventual game-winner in overtime for the 3-2 win at Raider Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon. It was the final GNAC contest of the fall for both squads as the Raiders are now 2-13-1 overall, 0-9-1 in the league play while the AMCATS improve to 2-13-1, 1-9-0 in the GNAC.

After a scoreless first half, the Raiders got on the board in the 64th minute. Junior Matt Wolski (Tyngsboro, Mass.) headed home his first of the season off a free kick from senior Ben Noelk (Georgetown, Mass.). Anna Maria would find the equalizer in the 77th minute when senior Derrick Casey (Worcester, Mass.) knocked home a corner kick from freshman Connor Francis (Colchester, Conn.).

With time winding down, freshman Pedro Lopez (Methuen, Mass.) sent a perfect through ball to classmate Prince Moye (Lowell, Mass.) who then chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head to give Rivier what seemed like the game winner. However a foul in the box just 20 seconds later allowed Anna Maria freshman Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass.) to capitalize on a penalty kick to force the overtime period.

Lawrence would then end the game with 30 seconds left as he kicked home a pass from Casey into the lower left corner.

Sophomore keeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) made five saves on eight chances while the duo of freshman Jeffre Donahue (Rockland, Mass.) and junior Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.) combined for two saves on four shots.

Rivier will close out the 2017 season on Tuesday evening with a non-conference tilt at New England College. Anna Maria will travel to WPI tomorrow afternoon as they finish out their 2017 campaign.
