Men's Soccer downed by New England College, 5-2

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team fell to 1-2 on the season as they dropped a non-conference contest with visiting New England College, 5-2 this afternoon at Raider Field. The Pilgrims were able to capitalize on five of their fifteen shots on net in the win.

Sophomore Jerry Krahn (Greene, R.I.) scored his first two goals of the season for Rivier. His first came on a penalty shot at 82:13 and just 2 minutes later Krahn buried a cross from junior Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.) to account for the Raiders' goals.

New England College scored twice early in the contest to hold a lead they would not relinquish. Mike Skarbelis netted his first of the two goals as he was able to strike the ball low and to the right side of Rivier goalkeeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.). Less than a minute later, Skarbelis was able to head a beautiful cross from Benny Kaneza into the upper left corner of the net.

The Pilgrims received second half goals from Julian Yourawski, Sebastian Anderson and Andreas Persson for the 5-2 final.

Archambault was in net for the first 45 minutes and is credited with the loss after surrendering two goals on six shots. Sophomore Anthony Capozzi (Windham, N.H.) finished the game in between the pipes and allowed three goals on nine shots.

Mark Nowak was credited with the win as he had 80 minutes of shutout ball. Dylan Mix gave up the two goals on three shots.

The Raiders will return to action on Wednesday evening as they host Colby-Sawyer College. Game time is set for 7pm at Raider Field. New England College will travel to Norton, Mass. to take on Wheaton College on Tuesday night in their next scheduled contest.
