Mercier and Gagnon Earn GNAC Player and Goalie of the Week Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. – The Rivier men's lacrosse team used stellar efforts from senior midfielder Coby Mercier and senior goalkeeper Sawyer Gagnon to take down Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North foes Emmanuel (Mass.) and Norwich in the same week to hop into first place in the division. Their performances earned them GNAC weekly honors as Mercier was named the Player of the Week while Gagnon was tabbed the Goalie of the Week.
In a 14-13 win over Emmanuel on Wednesday night, Mercier tallied six points with three goals and three assists while Gagnon registered 15 saves.
In Saturday's 17-4 Senior Day trouncing of Norwich, Gagnon made nine saves on 11 shots to post a .818 save percentage. Mercier added to the offensive onslaught at Merrill Field with five goals to his credit.
Mercier, Gagnon, and the Raiders will finish the regular-season on Wednesday, April 23 in a GNAC North clash against Anna Maria, with the opening draw set for 5:00 p.m. from Caparso Field.
