Offensive Explosion in 2nd Quarter lifts Raiders past Emerson

(Boston, MA) The Rivier University Raiders registered eight goals in the second quarter en route to a 9-6 win over Emerson College tonight in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

The Lions got off to a quick start as they capitalized on their first four shots and held the 4 goal advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.

Just 1:48 into the second quarter, junior Danny Hooper (Wakefield, RI) go the scoring started as he took a pass from sophomore Ryan Woolaver (Tewksbury, MA) and buried it the net. Seconds later, freshman Kyle Graham (Londonderry, NH) made it 4-2 after a sniper shot found its way past the Emerson goaltender. Freshman Brandon Hanifin (Tewksbury, MA) then proceeded to score three of the next four Rivier goals – freshman David Bray (West Suffield, CT) had the other – over the course of five minutes to jolt the Raiders into the lead. Bray and freshman Robert Auer (Salem, NH) would tally the final goals, just 20 seconds apart, to cap the 8-goal quarter for the Raiders.

It was a much more defensive second half as the Lions netted a pair of goals to Rivier's one. The lone goal for the Raiders came with 8:50 left in the game when Woolaver connected on a pass from Hanifin.

Freshman Clark Plummer (Londonderry, NH) earned his sixth win in net for Rivier. He was able to stop 8-of-14 shots on goal.

The win catapults the Raiders to an overall record of 6-2 and a 2-1 mark in GNAC competition. Rivier will return to action on Thursday evening as they travel to Lasell College for a 4pm faceoff.
