Men's Lacrosse sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards

(Boston, MA) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced their weekly award winners and the Rivier Raiders Men's Lacrosse team swept the awards. Brandon Hanifin (Tewksbury, MA) was selected as GNAC Player of the Week, Robert Auer (Salem, NH) was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week and Clark Plummer (Londonderry, NH) earned GNAC Goalie of the Week. All three award winners are true freshman for Rivier.

Hanifin lead Rivier University this week in goals (9), assists (7) and total points with 16. The freshman midfielder also collected 16 ground balls while causing six turnovers in a 2-1 week for the Raiders. Hanifin scored four goals and dished out three assists in a 13-2 win over U. Maine Farmington Monday. He continued collecting points in a 14-4 win over Thomas College on Wednesday, Hanifin Netted three goals and added four assists. On Saturday, Hanifin got himself two more goals vs. Mount Ida in an 11-6 loss.

Auer netted eight goals and handed out three assists helping Rivier grab two wins in a 2-1 week. The freshman midfielder also caused three turnovers and gathered 15 ground balls. Auer scored six goals in a 14-4 victory over Thomas College in non-conference play on Wednesday. Auer also collected five points on two goals and three assists in another non-conference victory over U. Maine Farmington 13-2 in a Monday contest.

Plummer continues to stymie offenses with his exceptional goalie play in a 2-1 week for Rivier University. The freshman allowed a stingy 5.82 goals against average, made 40 saves and saved 71.4% of all shots he saw on the week. The rookie goaltender's first taste of GNAC play came this week, facing the two-time defending GNAC Champions. Plummer proved himself, making 25 saves on the day vs. Mount Ida. The anchor of the Raiders defense also continues to quarterback the clearing game at an astounding 86% success rate. This is the second time that Plummer was named GNAC Goalie of the Week. He has been selected GNAC Goalie of the Week in each of the last two weeks the team's competed in.

The Men's Lacrosse team will return to action tomorrow night as they host Anna Maria College in a GNAC contest at Raider Field. Game time is schedule for 7pm.
