Women's Soccer season ends with 1-0 win over Plymouth State

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team wrapped up their 2016 season this evening with a 1-0 win against visiting Plymouth State University at a cold and windy Raider Field. The win is the sixth of the year for Rivier and they finish with a 6-8-2 overall record. Plymouth State falls to 9-4-2.

Freshman Brittany Fletcher (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted her first career goal with 14 minutes left in regulation, an unassisted goal, to give the Raiders the lead and the win. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) notched her third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season as she made eleven saves on the night.

Plymouth State senior goalkeeper Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, N.H.) stopped four of five shots she faced on net in the loss.

The Panthers outshot the Raiders by a 24-10 margin and recorded the only two corner kicks on the evening.

With that, the 2016 Women's Soccer season is over along with the careers of the eight seniors who end their days at Rivier with a three game win streak. Plymouth State will wrap up their 2016 regular season with a Little East Conference contest at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
