Women's Soccer blanks Suffolk, 2-0 on Senior Day

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team sent their seniors off with a 2-0 win this afternoon over visiting Suffolk University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at a soggy Raider Field. The win is the fifth of the season for the Raiders as they move to 5-8-2 overall and finish with a 4-7-0 record in the conference, two points shy of the 8th and final seed in the GNAC Tournament. Suffolk falls to an even 9-9 overall and 5-6-0 in the GNAC, good enough for the #7 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Senior Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) netted both goals of the contest within the first 15 minutes of the first half. She was able to collect a pass from classmate Jackie Russo (Saugus, Mass.) through the Suffolk goalkeeper and knock home her first of the game at 4:02. Seven minutes later, Cohoon recorded her 11th goal of the season as she was able to corral a bouncing pass from senior Colby Creteau (Nashua, N.H.) and deposit it in the back of the net.

Junior Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped all nine shots she faced on net for her second consecutive and 4th shutout of the year. Suffolk's Kirsten Weiker (Durham, N.H.) was successful on six of eight shots she faced.

The Raiders will enjoy one last game on the pitch as they host Plymouth State University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening. Suffolk will travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday night in their final regular season contest before the conference tournament.
