Men's Soccer downed by Emerson College, 3-0

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Men's Soccer fought through some lightning and torrential rain but wound up on the losing side of the game as the Emerson College Lions defeated the Raiders, 3-1 this evening at Raider Field.

The Lions got on the board early in the first half as Pat Kudej delivered a pass to Austin Alphonse who deposited it into the back of the net. It was Alphonse's third goal of 2013. Just 13 minutes later, Jon Havens knocked home a pass from Adam Haliday to increase the Lions lead to 2-0.

Emerson would close out the half as Killian Fisher was able to beat the Raider goaltender with 26 seconds remaining.

With 11:32 left to play, Rivier freshman Anthony Capozzi (Windham, NH) was able to head a cross from junior Danny Connelly (Bedford, NH) to get the Raiders on the board.

Freshman Gary Archambault (Amherst, NH) was able to stop eight of eleven shots while his counterpart, Emerson's Carter Bowers was successful on six of seven shots he faced.

Rivier will return to action when they host Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7pm. Emerson will battle UMass-Boston in their next scheduled contest on Wednesday afternoon.
