Men's Soccer edged by Colby-Sawyer, 1-0

(New London, NH) Colby-Sawyer College junior Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) broke a scoreless tie with six seconds remaining in regulation to lift Colby-Sawyer College to a 1-0 win over River University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders fall to 1-2-1, while the Chargers improve to 3-2. Both of Rivier's losses this season have been by two goals or less.

With time running out, CSC junior Chris DiCecca (Wilmington, Mass.) dribbled down the left side of the field and sent a ball to the front of the net. After the ball bounced off of a couple of players trying to gain possession, which included Rivier keeper Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.), Ortega was able to get his body in the right position to knock in the game-winner. The goal was Ortega's second of the season.

Colby-Sawyer keeper Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) did not have to make a save en route to his second shutout of the season. Archambault finished the game eight saves for the Raiders.

The Chargers had plenty of chances to take the lead throughout the game and outshot Rivier 21-4, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal.

Rivier travels to Mount Ida on Sunday at noon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. Colby-Sawyer begins a four-game road trip on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. tilt at Becker College.
