
Ference, Gagnon Earn GNAC Weekly Honors
WINTHROP, Mass. – Rivier men's lacrosse graduate students Michael Ference and Sawyer Gagnon were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week and GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, after a 2-0 week with wins over Curry and New England Col. to improve to 5-1 on the season.
In Wednesday's 13-2 win over Curry, Ference recorded four points, tallying two goals and two assists as he surpassed the 300-career point milestone. The Salem, N.H. native added a career-best 11 points in Saturday's victory over New England Col., totaling four goals and seven assists while grabbing two ground balls.
Gagnon posted a season-high 16 saves, boasting a 94.1% save percentage on the road against Curry in just 45 minutes of action. In Rivier's GNAC home opener, he added 13 saves as the Raiders took care of the Pilgrims at home. Overall, Gagnon posted a 58.6% save percentage with 6.50 goals against average.
Ference, Gagnon, and the Raiders return to GNAC action on Saturday, March 29 when they face JWU (Providence) on Youth Lacrosse Day. Opening faceoff from Joanne Merrill Field is slated for 11:00 a.m.
