Raiders Steamroll Eagles 19 – 4

4/9/2014 – Raider Field, Nashua, NH – The Rivier University Raiders (7 – 5, 4 – 4 GNAC) notched a 19 – 4 GNAC Conference win over the cross town rival Daniel Webster College Eagles (1 – 8, 0 – 7 GNAC) tonight.  Rivier welcomed the visitors to Raider Field by pounding them with 8 goals in the 1st quarter.  Before Daniel Webster could right the ship the Raiders were way ahead and cruised into halftime on the back of a dominating 10 – 1 first half performance.  Daniel Webster was able to rattle in the first goal of the 3rd quarter, but the Raiders answered with another relentless run pumping in five more goals to one strike for the visitors, and a 15 – 3 score line with three quarters in the books.  The Raiders added four more in the fourth, including a strike from senior Jeff Kelly (Westborough, MA), and the Eagles managed a late tally for the final line of 19 – 4. 

The Raider attack was led by Kyle Graham (Sophomore - Londonderry, N.H.) with 4 goals, 6 assists, 8 ground balls; Cody Lynch (Sophomore - Salem, N.H.) with 4 goals, 1 assist, 12 ground balls; Tom Johnson (Freshman - Londonderry, N.H.) with 3 goals, 3 assists, 4 ground balls; Sean Given (Freshman - Londonderry, N.H.) with 3 goals, 3 ground balls; Kevin Dembkoski (Sophomore - Salem, N.H.) with 2 goals, 1 assist, 1 ground ball; Jeff Kelly with 1 goal; Danny Hooper (Senior - Wakefield, R.I.) with 1 goal, 3 ground balls; and Dalton Paquette (Freshmen – Merrimack, NH) with 1 goal, 2 ground balls.  Clark Plummer (Sophomore - Londonderry, N.H.) notched 5 saves in 39:00 minutes between the pipes while Jim Varela (Junior – Merrimack, NH) made 4 saves as he closed out the game.

The visiting Eagles received single goals from Jay McGrath (Sophomore – Chelmsford, MA); Sean Hamilton (Sophomore – Brookline, NH) who also had 5 ground balls; David Downie (Freshmen – Merrimack, NH) who also had an assist and 4 ground balls; and Gabe Lewis (Freshmen – Hollis, NH) who also had a ground ball.  Curtis Larade (Sophomore – Merrimack, NH) went the distance in goal making 14 saves.

Rivier returns to action this Saturday, April 12th away at Albertus Magnus College in another GNAC contest at 4:00 pm.  Next up for Daniel Webster is a home tilt versus Mitchell College also this Saturday at 2:00 pm.
