It's official! Bisson promoted to Head Men's Basketball Coach

(Nashua, N.H.) Rivier University has announced that Lance Bisson '09 will be the Head Men's Basketball Coach, effective June 27, 2016. Bisson, an assistant coach for four years, was promoted to Interim Head Coach back on December 1, 2015 after David Morissette stepped down.

"We are excited to remove the interim tag and make Lance the Head Men's Basketball Coach," said Rivier University Athletic Director Joanne Merrill. "Rivier is proud to see Lance back on the bench and we are confident that he will have as much success now as he did when he wore the Raider Blue and White."

Bisson played all four years under Morissette where he totaled 1,223 career points while leading the program to their only Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2007. He was enshrined into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to become the Head Coach for the Rivier Men's Basketball program," Bisson said earlier today. "I want to thank our Athletic Director Joanne Merrill for entrusting me to lead this program that I have been fortunate enough to be around for eight seasons."

Bisson becomes just the third head coach in the Men's Basketball history. Jim Domoracki was the program's first coach from the 1992-93 through 1997-98 then Morissette took over for the next 18 years.

"I always saw myself as a coach," Bisson continued. "As soon as I was done playing, I knew I wanted to be a coach. As an assistant, you get to learn and accumulate as much knowledge as possible so that way when a Head Coaching opportunity presents itself, you're ready. I believe that I am ready to build this program."

Bisson will also serve as the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country programs.
