Men's Basketball downed by Fitchburg State in Tip-Off Tournament Finals

(Nashua, N.H.) The Fitchburg State University Falcons scored 48 points in the first half as they went on to win the 2014 and 22nd annual Rivier University Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon over the host, Rivier University by a final of 84-68 at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Falcons captured their 2nd Tournament Championship – their first came in 2011 when they defeated Daniel Webster College, 99-95.

Fitchburg State (5-0 overall) was led by Tournament MVP, junior Keyon Armstrong (Brockton, Mass.). Armstrong shot 8-for-11 from the floor with a total of six 3-pointers en route to a game high 23 points. The Falcons saw a total of five student-athletes reach double figures. All-Tournament selection, junior Givaughn Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 13 points and both freshman Maurice Greene (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Anthony Muccioli (Nashua, N.H.) added 12 points in the win. Junior Kwame Lee (Brockton, Mass.) provided help with 10 points and 2 assists.

Rivier (1-3) senior Jake Nelson (Nashua, N.H.) led the team with 13 points. Freshman Andre Ruff (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Manning (Lynn. Mass.) added 11 and 10 points respectively as they were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Freshman David Lorden (Pepperell, Mass.) came off the bench and collected the game high of 9 rebounds.

Rivier will return to the floor on Tuesday evening as they host New England College in a 5:30pm tip-off. Fitchburg State will look to remain unbeaten as they are also in action on Tuesday night at home against UMass-Boston.

Consolation Game: Colby-Sawyer College 118, Albany College of Pharmacy & health Sciences 55

The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball received double figure scoring from six different players in Saturday's 118-55 win over Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Studies at the Rivier University Tip-Off tournament.

The Chargers even their record to 2-2 and will host Keene State on Thursday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. Albany CPHS falls to 2-4.

The 118 points is the fifth most in program history. The Chargers also made 16 three-pointers, which is third most. Colby-Sawyer finished the game 55.8% from the floor and 59.3% from beyond the arc.

Colby-Sawyer was led by a 19-point effort on 8-11 shooting from junior Peter Donato (Portland, Maine). Junior Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) was 6-for-8 for 18 points. Freshman Cam Meservey (Bedford, N.H.) did not miss on Saturday. He was 5-5 from beyond the arc and 1-1 inside to record 17 points. Junior Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) also shot the ball well. He went 5-6 from the floor and 3-3 from deep to score 14 points. Senior Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) and junior Kohl Meyers (Wolfeboro, N.H.) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Chargers held a 61-24 lead at the half after shooting 59.5%. Colby-Sawyer had 27 assists on 43 made baskets.

Albany College of Pharmacy's offensive attack was paced by junior David Mcentee. Mcentee shot 5-for-9 from the floor for 10 points and dished out 5 assists. Freshman Emmanuel Okafor collected the team high in both points (12) and rebounds (8) in his 29 minutes of action. Freshman Alex Johnson also added 8 points in the Panthers' loss.
