Women's Volleyball sweeps GNAC tri-match at Norwich

(Northfield, Vt.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team took a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests this afternoon in Northfield, Vermont as they beat both Norwich University and Albertus Magnus College in straight sets. The Raiders are now 20-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference with the wins.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Norwich University 0 (Final)

In the opening round, the Cadets (4-12, 0-7 GNAC) struggled to find their rhythm in the first game against Rivier, hitting just .179 in the first set as the Raiders bombard the court with .458 hitting percentage for the 25-14 win. Rivier faltered on the attack in the second set, hitting just .138 but Cadets' miscues of attack and service errors begun to pile up, as the Raiders took the second set, 25-16 before closing out the contest with 12 kills, three service aces and just two errors for a .423 hitting percentage and the 25-11 decision for the sweep.

Senior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) each had six kills while sophomore Alex Trevains (Litchfield, N.H.) and freshman Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added four in the three set win. Junior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered an .833 hitting percentage with five kills and a block solo in her one set played. Macken finished the game with the team high of 14 assists and 7 digs while senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded only 11 assists in her one set played.

Senior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) recorded a team-high 10 kills, while sophomore setter Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) collected 18 assists with a service ace. Junior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) would come up with 11 digs as freshmen Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) and Emily Jordan (Dalton, Mass.) were credited with a block assist.

Game two: Rivier University 3, Albertus Magnus College 0 (Final)

The Raiders finished the GNAC sweep with a straight set victory over the Falcons by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 26-24.

Pisecco once again led the offensive attack for Rivier as the outside hitter hammered down a team high 9 kills. Freshman Taylor White (Dunstable, Mass.) had herself a career day as she totaled seven kills and seven digs. Macken was electric as she had 24 assists and a .667 hitting percentage. Senior Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, R.I.) had the team high of 17 digs with sophomore Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) providing help along the back line with 11 digs.

Rivier, who now have 11 consecutive seasons of 20+ wins under Head Coach Craig Kolek, will return to the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium as they host Anna Maria College on Tuesday night in their next scheduled contest. The GNAC matchup is scheduled to start at 7pm.
