Women's Volleyball wins 8th straight, down USJ in three sets

(West Hartford, Conn.) Senior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) hammered down 10 kills to lead the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team to a three set Great Northeast Athletic Conference win this evening over the University of Saint Joseph.

The Raiders (18-4, 4-0 GNAC) won the three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20 as they have now won eight consecutive games and 18 of their last 19. The Blue Jays fall to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Pisecco was not the only one to shine bright tonight as she received support from classmates Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) and Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.). Both recorded seven kills in the contest with Mott swinging at a .636 hitting percentage. Senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.), who recently surpassed the 4,000 assist mark, added just 12 helpers in her one set played. Freshman Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was the primary setter for the other two sets and led the team with 21 assists. Sophomore Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) collected 12 digs and junior Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 digs to pace the defensive attack.

Sarah Lipinski (Farmington, Conn) and Tiffany Mapusaga (Waianae, Haw.) each had four kills and nine digs for Saint Joseph and Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) also had nine digs for the Blue Jays.

Rivier will have a tough non-conference contest next time out as they travel to Babson Park, Mass. to battle Babson College – who is currently 15-6 on the season. The University of Saint Joseph will return to the court when they travel to Anna Maria for a tri-match that also includes UMass-Dartmouth.
