Women's Lacrosse suffers 12-11 loss at Regis College

(Weston, Mass.) The River University Women's Lacrosse team dropped a tough 12-11 decision this afternoon to Regis College in a non-conference contest at Regis Stadium. The Raiders slip below the .500 mark overall on the season with the loss at 4-5. Regis, meanwhile, moves to 5-3 overall in 2016.

Rivier twice tied the game in the final 15 minutes before Linsay Bumila's (Raynham, Mass.) goal with 6:48 to play gave the Pride the lead for good. It was just the midfielder's second goal of the season but came at an opportune time as the Pride defense held the Raiders scoreless the rest of the way.

Senior Paxton Larocque (Londonderry, N.H.) led the way for Rivier tallying four goals to share game-high honors with Regis' Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.). Salamone also posted Regis' two assists in the match.

Freshman Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) turned away nine Regis shots while her counterpart, Emma Decker recorded seven saves for the Pride.

Regis trailed just once in the game but never led by more than three goals. Salamone got the scoring started less than three minutes into the game before Larocque and junior Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) (3 G, 2 A) scored free position goals to give the Raiders their lone lead.

Ariana Woodley (Norwood, Mass.) put the Pride ahead 5-3, one timing a pass from Salamone to give Regis its largest lead to that point. Rivier responded to tie the score but Salamone added another to help the Pride again go up by two and take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Both teams came out firing in the second half but it was Regis that built a 10-7 lead less than six minutes into the period. Rivier responded with three straight goals to tie the game with less than 15 minutes to play but Decker would get beaten just one more time while Regis snuck in another two goals to take the win.

Rivier will return to friendly confines of Raider Field as they prepare for a back-to-back Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests with the University of Saint Joseph (4/9) and Albertus Magnus College (4/10). The Pride return to New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday, playing at Wheelock at 12:00 p.m.
