Ochoa, Yocca tabbed for GNAC/Corvias Weekly Honors

(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced this afternoon that a pair of Rivier University Men's Volleyball student-athletes were honored as the GNAC/Corvias Player of the Week. Senior Nick Ochoa (Whittier, Calif.) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Khaynen Yocca (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Week.

Ochoa was solid all weekend long for the Raiders as they competed against some of the top programs in the country. The fourth year libero scooped up 42 digs over the four matches and averaged 2.80 digs per set. Ochoa recorded 17 digs in the team's 3-2 win over #7 Stevenson Institute of Technology to close out the weekend.

Yocca was just as dominate as Ochoa as he recorded a total of 27 kills and a .479 hitting percentage. The 6-6 middle hitter also used his tall frame to register 10 total blocks and a 0.67 blocks per set average on the weekend. In the win over #7 Stevenson, Yocca smacked at a .400 clip with 7 kills and two blocks.

This is the second time that Ochoa has been selected as the GNAC/Corvias Defensive Player of the Week and the third time this season that a Raider has been honored (Mike Hovnanian on February 8). Yocca becomes the first Raiders to earn Rookie of the Week status this season.

Rivier will return to the court tomorrow night when they host #1 Springfield College at 7pm.
