Emerson Grabs First GNAC Win at Hands of Rivier

BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson College gave first year coach Nate Mayo his first victory as the Lions' mentor with a 17-2 victory over Rivier College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse action at Emerson's Rotch Field.

The Lions got multiple goals from four different players led by Josh Anderson '11 (Underhill Center, Vt.) with eight tallies. Dan Gold '12 (Randolph, N.J.) added four markers, while Max Smith '14 (Gillette, N.J.) found the net three times, and Dan Haber '14 (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored twice.

Emerson scored just 15 seconds into the game as Habber took a feed from Anderson off the initial faceoff. The Lions got on the board again just seconds later when Gold took the first of Eric Colleran's '14 (Fairfield, Conn.) three assists on the evening. Rivier came back with a goal by Carl Ghannad '12 (Salem, N.H.) on a Danny Hooper '14 (Wakefield, R.I.) assist to make the score 2-1 with less than five minutes gone in the game.

Emerson then got two goals from Anderson and two from Gold to open a 6-1 lead. Hooper answered with an unassisted tally to end the period.

The second and third periods were all Emerson as the Lions held an 11-2 halftime edge, and were up 16-2 after three.

Zoe Fisk '13 (Pittston, Maine) made 13 saves in the Emerson net and Chris Benoit '12 (Blackstone, Mass.) made 13 stops for the Raiders.

Emerson (1-9, 1-3 GNAC) will host Norwich University on Saturday at 3:00pm in a GNAC matchup. Rivier (0-6, 0-4 GNAC) will host Mount Ida at 1:30 pm, also in a GNAC contest.
