Farmington Spoils Opening Day for Rivier

Nashua, NH – Rivier College opened up its men's lacrosse season today with a 16-1 loss against the University of Maine at Farmington at Raider field in Nashua, NH. Patrick Hurley scored what would be the eventual game winner with 6:09 left in the first quarter as the Beavers went up 5-0 in the opening frame and never looked back.

Farmington went up 11-0 by the third quarter before Rivier scored their lone goal as freshman Danny Hooper picked up a ball off the ground and made a move in front of the goal before shooting into the lower left corner for the first goal of the 2011 season and the first goal of his career. Rivier would not score again and Farmington tacked on 5 more goals in the 4th quarter to finish with their first win of the season, 16-1.

Farmington tallied 37 shots on goal compared to just 10 for Rivier with Farmington's Hurley scoring a game high 6 goals. Tennessee Peters scored 3 goals and added 2 assists while Sean Skillern had 3 assists. Ben Altmaier recorded the win as the goalkeeper logged all 60 minutes with 9 saves and just 1 goal allowed.

Hooper scored the only goal for Rivier and also had a team high 4 shots on goal. Shawn Donovan also recorded 4 shots on goal for the Raiders, but couldn't get it past the goal keeper. Chris Benoit took the loss, giving up 16 goals and registering 21 saves.

The Raiders get right back on the field tomorrow as they host Green Mountain College on the back end of a women's and men's lacrosse double header at 2:30 pm (the women play at noon).
