Green Mountain Upends Rivier Lacrosse 24-6

Nashua, NH – Eric Hansel (Essex, CT) scored 8 goals and the Green Mountain Eagles outshot Rivier College 61-24 en route to Green Mountain's 24-6 defeat of Rivier College today in men's lacrosse action.

Green Mountain took an early lead with a Matt Tarricone (Oneota, NY) goal from an Ethan LaCuyer (Massena, NY) pass to make it 1-0. LaCuyer would add three straight goals followed by a Mike Smith (Georgetown, MA) goal to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead. The Raiders finally got on the board when junior Carl Ghannad (Salem, NH) took a feed from Shawn Donovan (Tewksbury, MA) while playing a man up due to a penalty. Jeff Kelly (Westborough, MA) would add another goal for the Raiders almost 5 minutes later and Donovan scored one of his own, but Hansel finished the first period with his first goal of the game to make it 8-3 in favor of the visitors.

The Raiders opened up the scoring in the second period with Donovan's second goal on a feed from senior Chris Nugent (Camberley, England), but the Eagles responded with 4 unanswered goals capped off by Toliver Dimasi (Winooski, VT) putting the ball into the cage from a pass by Oliver Osnoss (Chilmark, MA).

Green mountain kept on the pressure for the entire third period, scoring 10 more times then played keep away for most of the fourth adding just two more goals as they held a convincing 24-6 advantage. Along with Hansel's 8 goals, Tarricone added 6 goals and both LaCuyer and Smith notched 4 goals. Osnoss had a team high 5 assists and goal keeper Ethan Whaley (Exeter, NH) needed just 7 saves to pick up the victory.

Donovan and freshman Danny Hooper (Wakefield, RI) each scored twice for the Raiders while Donovan had a team high 3 assists. Chris Benoit (Blackstone, MA) took the loss for the Raiders despite making 25 saves in the net.

Rivier will travel across town on April 2nd to take on Daniel Webster College in a battle of intercity rivals at 12:00 PM while Green Mountain will travel to Lyndon State the same day for a 1:00 PM game.
