Women's Lacrosse: Raiders charged down by Colby-Sawyer in home opener

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2018 season this afternoon with a 24-10 setback to visiting Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action at Raider Field.

Colby-Sawyer (1-0 overall) scored first and often as Charger senior Bailey Starr (Barre, Vt.) scored the season opening goal within the first three minutes. It was a back-and-forth affair early one as both squads were finding the back of the net. The game was tied at 3 with just under 18 minutes to play in the first stanza before Colby-Sawyer went on a 6-1 run over a five minute span to essentially lock up their first win of the season.

Rivier (0-1 overall) was led offensively by sophomores Dzenana Omerovic (Revere, Mass.) and Kayla Foye (Billerica, Mass.) who each netted two goals apiece. The Raiders also saw six different student-athletes record goals including senior Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman Michaela Charette (Orrington, Maine), who registered her first career goal.

Starr finished with five goals on the afternoon while junior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, Mass.) added six of her own. Classmate Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) had herself a game as she assisted on four goals and scored four of her own for the Chargers.

Rivier junior goalkeeper Courtney Lapierrere (Keene, N.H.) was credited with 18 saves compared to Colby-Sawyer sophomore Kailyn Lapham's (Medway, Mass.) four saves.

Next up for the Raiders will be another non-conference matchup on March 1st at Fitchburg State. Colby-Sawyer, meanwhile, will return to the field as they take on yet another Great Northeast Athletic Conference school in Simmons College on Tuesday night in Boston.
