MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Rivier softball team dropped both games on Friday, March 7 at the Space Coast Spring Games, falling to Concordia Chicago by a score of 6-0 before dropping a 6-3 decision to Dubuque.
The Raiders fell to 2-6 with the losses while Cougars jumped to 4-3 while the Spartans improved to 9-3.
Concordia Chicago 6, Rivier 0
Concordia Chicago got on the board first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Cougars added another run to their total in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to 3-0.
Sophomore Haleigh Silva responded with two scoreless innings, including retiring the Concordia Chicago batters in order in the bottom of the fourth.
The Cougars capped off the contest in their final appearance at the plate, adding three more runs, taking the contest by a score of 6-0.
Senior Courtney Marioles led the offensive efforts for Rivier, going 2-for-3 with two singles.
Dubuque 6, Rivier 3
Rivier got out to a 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Sophia Quinlan doubled to deep right field which brought home junior Avry Nelson.
Just an inning later, the Raiders increased their lead to 3-0. A triple to right-center field from graduate Hannah Muchemore to bring home sophomore Hayleigh Silva got things started in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Nelson had a base knock to bring Muchemore home and extend Rivier's lead to three.
In the midst of the Raiders' offensive success through the first five innings, sophomore Hailey Berube held Dubuque scoreless, striking out five Spartans in that span.
Dubuque found their stride in the top of the sixth, putting up four runs on two doubles and a single.
The Spartans continued to shine offensively in the top of the seventh inning, adding two runs to put the game out of reach, taking the game by a score of 6-3.
Muchemore had a career outing, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one run batted in. Nelson and Silva added 2-for-4 performances with Silva adding an RBI of her own.
