Softball Splits Day Two in the Sunshine State

MELBOURNE, Fla.  – The Rivier softball team went 1-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Space Coast Complex on the second day of its Spring Break trip in the Sunshine State. The squad's first win of the 2025 campaign came by way of a 4-3 victory over Mount Mary. They concluded the afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Rose-Hulman.

With the split, the Raiders hold a 1-3 record. The Blue Angels fell to 1-6 on the season, while the Engineers improved to 3-1 with the win.

The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday, March 5 for more Space Coast Spring Game action. The day begins with a 12:15 p.m. first pitch at the Blue Rawlings Field against the John Carrol Blue Streaks and will end with a 4:45 p.m. matchup with the Houghton Highlanders at Fast Pitch Stadium at the Space Coast Complex.

Rivier 4, Mount Mary 3

Following a scoreless first inning, the Blue Angels struck first on a sacrifice fly to right field in the second. Mount Mary added one more run in the inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Rivier responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Junior Olivia Couto started the Raider rally with a base knock to left field, bringing home junior Kylee Caetano. One out later, senior Courtney Marioles singled to left field to bring home Couto, tying the game up 2-2. With two outs in the third, junior Avry Nelson and sophomore Hayleigh Silva brought home two runs, by way of a fielder choice and a walk, giving the Raiders a 4-2 lead.

Mount Mary attempted a two-out rally of their own in the top of the fifth, bringing the game within one, however, Silva was able to hold the Blue Angels at bay, pitching two out of her five scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to secure the 4-3 win.

Caetano went 3-for-4 at the plate. Graduate Hannah Muchemore followed closely behind, going 2-for-3 with a run.

Silva logged her first win of the season with a complete-game outing, striking out four batters.

Rose-Hulman 4, Rivier 2

Rose-Hulman got on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch in the opening frame.

Rivier responded an inning later, thanks to a Nelson single to right field that brought home Muchemore, tying the game at 1-1. Nelson crossed the plate for the Raiders giving them a 2-1 lead, which they held until the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Engineers took a 3-2 lead off a double to deep left field. Rose-Hulman added an insurance run on a field choice to score the game's final run and close the game out, 4-2.

Sophomore Hailey Berube went six innings, four scoreless, with two strikeouts and giving up two earned runs in her second outing of the season.
