Raiders Softball Earns GNAC Honors

Nashua, NH – After a 4-2 start to the 2011 season during a spring break trip to Orlando, FL the Rivier College Softball program earned two awards to start their quest for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship repeat.

Catherine Roy, a freshman shortstop from Dracut, MA, was named the GNAC player of the week after going 11 for 26 at the plate hitting .524, knocking in 8 runs and scoring 6 along with 1 homerun. Roy had an .857 slugging percentage and hit 4 doubles in the 6 games and led the team with 18 total bases. In the field Catherine recorded 12 assists and 10 put outs in 25 chances and had an .880 fielding percentage during her first games at the collegiate level.

Lauren Beatty (Sherman, CT), another Riv freshman, took home the GNAC Rookie of the Week honors after posting a 1-0 record on the mound with 1 save while batting .333 with 3 homeruns. Beatty went 5 for 15 with 3 homeruns and a double while scoring 5 runs and driving in 4 more. Lauren split her time between third base and pitcher, picking up 7 assists and 3 put outs in 14 chances in the field.

The Raiders are off until March 26th when they travel to Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT for their first GNAC conference double header of the season.
