Rivier Drops Two in Softball Double Header

Rivier Drops Two in Softball Double Header

Game 1; Emerson College 11 – Rivier College 6

Game 2: Emerson College 10 – Rivier College 2

Nashua, NH – Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) hit a grandslam to put 4 runs on the scoreboard today against Emerson College, but it wasn't enough.  Emerson College won both games in today's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball double header against Rivier College by scores of 11-6 and 10-2.

The Lions Lynn Herman (Boca Raton, FL) hit two home runs in game 1 with 4 RBIs and teammate Lissa Pappas (Prosper, TX) had 1 homerun and 4 RBIs in game two to push Emerson past the Raiders.

Herman's hit a three run homer in the top of the first after two walks put runners on the base path, then came up again in the second and hit a solo shot that put Emerson up 7-0 early in the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the second Peacock stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence for the grandslam and cut Emerson's lead to 7-4.  Releif pitcher Nadjeska Reynolds (Hamden, CT) did her best to keep the damage to a minimum, but an unearned run in the fourth, one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth were too much for Rivier to overcome.

Rivier added two runs in the third inning on a home run by Amanda Thornton (Hanover, MA) that scored Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA) who reached on a walk two batters prior.  That would be all the Raiders were able to get as Emerson ace Kelsey Tuthill got onto the mound in the fifith inning and allowed just one base runner on a walk.

Game two looked eerily similar to the first game as Emerson scored three runs in the first off starting pitcher Hillary Tarr (North Easton, MA) then Peacock reached base to leadoff the bottom of the inning, just like in game 1.  That was where the similarities ended as Tuthill allowed just one base runner in each of the first three innings.  Her one mistake came in the fourth when Amanda Ryan hit a solo homerun to lead things off, but after that no runners went past first base for the Raiders.

Emerson scored three runs in three of five innings, including a three run home run by Pappas in the third inning and a two run homer by Kendal Peiguss (Suquamish, WA) in the fifth.

Hillary Tarr (North Easton, MA) took both losses, pitching just 1.1 innings in game one and 3.0 innings in game two. Overall she allowed 13 total runs and walked 7 batters. Alex Magistro (Hackettstown, NJ) earned the win in game one giving up 4 runs on just 3 hits while Kelsey Tuthill (Middlefield, CT) won game two, going 5 innings and allowing 1 earned run on just 2 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Rivier will host Suffolk University on Friday, April 22nd at 4:00 PM as they try to squeeze in the final GNAC games of the season after a number of rain outs.
