Men's Soccer: Raiders stumble at home to Regis College, 6-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team suffered another loss this afternoon as they fell to visiting Regis College, 4-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 0-11-2 and are now 0-7-1 in the conference while the Pride improve to 6-4-2, 3-4-2 GNAC.

Regis got on the board in the first half when sophomore Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) knocked home his 2nd goal of the season off a feed from junior Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey). The Pride would extend their lead before halftime as junior Ken Niyonzima (Dracut, Mass.) netted his 5th goal of the year in the 30th minute.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when Tan netted an unassisted goal and then senior Brendan Plasczynski (Bristol, Conn.) tacked on his 3rd goal of the season with his own unassisted tally in the 58th minute. Niyonzima and freshman Marcos Rivera (San Juan, Puerto Rico) would then round out the offensive explosion with goals in the 64th and 70th minute, respectively, for Regis.

Rivier used three goalkeepers throughout the contest with freshman Nicholas Hasenfus (Attleboro, Mass.) getting the start and making just two saves while classmate River Sutton stopped four of the seven shots he faced and fellow freshman Cody Richards (Colebrook, N.H.) did not see a shot his way in the final 19:35 of action. Regis senior goaltender Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) recorded a clean sheet by stopping all three shots the Raiders took on net.

Next up for Rivier will be a trip to Providence, R.I. for another GNAC contest this time at Johnson & Wales University on Friday night at 7pm. Regis will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon as they host Becker College in non-conference action.
