Men's Soccer: Raiders downed at home by Saint Joseph's (Me.)

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team suffered a 7-0 setback this evening to visiting Saint Joseph's College (Me.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in the conference while the Monks remain unbeaten at 6-0, 2-0 GNAC.

Saint Joseph's got on the board in the 26th minute when Rory Twomey knocked home a pass from Jackson Taylor. Less than a minute later, Austin Ward scored his first of two consecutive goals the first one from Jacob Rockwood and the second (in the 40th minute) from Jason Umbehr. Cody Elliot would then get on the board as his free kick from about 40 yards out found its way through traffic and into the back of the net. As time expired in the first half, a foul inside the 18 led to a penalty kick in which Mitchell Cyr buried into the upper left 90 to make it a 5-0 deficit after the first 45.

The Monks would then add two more goals in the second to complete the 7-0 final as Brett Mattos found the back of the net in the 46th minute and Elliot finished with his second of the night in the 48th minute.

Rivier junior goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) make some incredible point blank saves as he finished with six saves on the evening. Saint Joseph's combination of Blake Mullen and David Walbridge did not see a shot on net and recorded the clean sheet.

Next up for the Raiders will be a non-conference matchup with New England College on Monday, September 17th. The Monks, meanwhile, will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon as they host Johnson and Wales University (R.I.) in a 1pm GNAC contest.
