Q: Since Rivier, you’ve moved into the work field. Could you describe your current occupation, what company you work for and the role you have?
A: Barber @Homegrown Barber Co, Assistant to the regional barber owner

Q: How did you land your job?
A: After graduation, I began working at Anthony’s barbershop for three years. Near the end of 2019 I decided to follow longtime friend, next-door neighbor and coworker Kelly Smith as he opened Homegrown Barber Co.

Q: Is this your dream job?
A: I love what I do and where I do it. But I can’t say it’s my dream job yet. I can confidently say it’s where I want my journey to begin. Homegrown is in Londonderry. Four other Barbers are also Londonderry natives. We have great chemistry, enthusiasm, pride and passion for what we do and where we do it.

Q: Describe your typical work day.
A: A typical day for me starts at 7:30 am and ends 7:30pm. Not everyday is a 12 hour day but usually 4-5 days a week I will.

Q: What’s the most surprising part of your job?
A: The support from the community.

Q: What’s the biggest perk of your job?
A: Being a barber is incredible for a lot of reasons. One is I create my own schedule. I can work as much or as little as I want. We have an appointment-based system that conveniently allows the client to schedule haircuts whatever times that are available. By picking the hours I work know when I start and when I end. As long as I plan ahead I never have to miss anything important to me.

Q: What are you most proud of?
A: Another aspect I am proud of is how we to created Homegrown Barber Co. from the ground up. The name, logo, merchandise, shop decor etc. I am proud to be a part of the small business community within Londonderry and look forward to continue to grow.

Q: What is your favorite memory at work?
A: Everyday at work is my favorite day!!

Q: How did Rivier prepare you for your role?
A: . RIVIER provided me with the opportunity to improve my work ethic. Through my years at Rivier, I grew confident in myself. I gained time management and communication skills. Rivier granted me a balanced education that allowed me explore different outlooks and avenues of thought.

Q: What’s your favorite Rivier memory?
A: Friendships

Q: What advice do you have for current student-athletes?
A: My advice to student athletes is to not embrace excuses, embrace solutions.

Q: What made you choose Rivier?
A: I chose Rivier because I knew I learned best in a small classroom. Also for the level of trust my parents, and myself, immediately established with Coach Jay Delanoy. Coach told me as a Senior in high school that I “could be the foundation of the program” he was going to build. The lessons I learned building a program alongside a tremendous coaching staff and men as close as brothers not only prepared me for my career but for life.

Q: Outside of work, what is your life like? I.E. family, kids, what do you do for fun, etc?
A: I still play lacrosse in men’s leagues and church softball

Q: Do you have social media accounts that #RivNation can follow to stay up-to-date with you and your career?
A: Instagram: @Stylesbykyle_ @HomegrownBarberco
