Women's Volleyball earns split against Keene State and Colby-Sawyer

(Nashua, N.H.) Rivier University was one of the two sites to host the second day of competition in the 2014 Granite State Challenge on Saturday at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Each of the five schools that competed yesterday – Colby-Sawyer, Daniel Webster, Keene State, Plymouth State and Rivier – were back in action at either Rivier or the other host site, Daniel Webster College.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Keene State College 1

Sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) laced 16 kills and a pair of 10-kill games from sophomores Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) powered Rivier past Keene State in the day's first game. Junior setter Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded 41 assists and freshman libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) totaled 24 digs. McCormack and O'Reilly also had double-digit dig efforts with 14 and 12, respectfully.

Keene State saw three players record the team high of 7 kills in Angela Silveri, Samantha Branning and Madeleine Nossif. Alexis Michal was the team assist leader with 20 while Brooke Bell added 17 helpers of her own. Leslie Hearns led the team with 20 digs.

Game Two: Colby-Sawyer College 3, Rivier University 0

The Raiders fell in the final game of the Granite State Challenge in three sets to Colby-Sawyer.

McCormack led the team with 9 kills and Silverman knocked down 7 in the loss. O'Reilly added another 27 assists with Trevino leading the team in digs with 13.

Colby-Sawyer was led by Gabrielle Rodriguez who laced 7 kills with Jackie Keating, Leah Drolet and Stephanie Vecchio adding six kills each. Laura Smolinski led the game with 29 assists and Lexi Strong had 15 digs in the three set win.
