Women's Volleyball improves to 6-4 with win over Newbury

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned their sixth win in ten games this evening as they defeated the visiting Newbury College Nighthawks 3-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18 at the Muldoon Gymnasium in Nashua, N.H. The win propels Rivier's overall record to 6-4 while Newbury falls to .500 with a 5-5 record.

Junior Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the way offensively for Rivier as she belted down 11 kills while sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 7 kills and a .462 hitting percentage in the three set win. Sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and junior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) each had six apiece. O'Reilly finished the night with 31 assists and freshman Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) provided defensive help with 10 digs. Silverman and sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) each recorded two total blocks for Rivier.

The Nighthawks received a 10 kill effort from Courtney Banks, who also added a block assist in the loss. Meghan McDermott contributed a game high with 13 digs and Heather Parish had 32 assists, also a game high. Both Lina Miranda and Maya Umoren each added seven kills with Kataya Sykes chipping in six.

The Raiders will return to action this upcoming Friday evening as they participate in the Granite State Challenge. Friday's games are at Colby-Sawyer College with Rivier battling Daniel Webster College at 4pm and then taking on Plymouth State University at 6pm. Newbury will have a full week to recover as they host Salem State University next Tuesday evening.
