Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Simmons, 3-0

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Rivier women's soccer team used two goals from Kaylee Magoon and a four-save cleansheet from keeper Julia Cafferty to push past Simmons, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Saturday afternoon at Daly Field. The Raiders have now won two games in a row and advanced their record to 2-1-0 (2-0-0 GNAC), while the Sharks fell to 0-3-1 (0-1-1 GNAC) on the season.

Magoon got the scoring underway in the 33rd minute when she spun off three defenders and fired a low shot past the outstretched arms of the Simmons keeper, Julia Rodgers, and into the bottom left corner of the net to put the Raiders up 1-0. She would strike again less than three minutes later on another unassisted tally on a similar turnaround-style shot to double the visitors' lead before halftime.

In the final minutes of regulation, Rivier used its final of five corner kicks to net the third goal of the contest. Jordan Butters placed a ball into the middle of the box that found Emily Lizotte's header for an easy tap-in to make it 3-0.

Rivier outshot Simmons, 15-8, throughout the duration of the game, with eight coming in the opening half.

The Raiders will continue GNAC play in their first home matchup of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 12 when they host Norwich at 7:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
